Storage Instructions
For the Cohiba Behike 52 (10) store your cigars in a well-maintained humidor set to 65 to 68% relative humidity and a temperature of 68 to 70 ºF (20 to 21 ºC). This line is produced with Cuban filler that includes rare Medio Tiempo leaves and an oily wrapper, so stable humidity and moderate temperature are vital to preserve oils and complexity. Keep the cigars in their box if possible for long-term storage and place the humidor away from direct sunlight and strong odours. For short trips use a sealed travel humidor or a sealed container with a reliable humidification sachet rated for the same humidity range. Avoid refrigeration or freezing as that dries out and can damage the wrapper and binder.
Care Tips
Handle the Cohiba Behike 52 (10) gently to protect the delicate oily wrapper. Hold the cigar by the foot or band when examining it and avoid squeezing the body. Use a sharp straight cutter or a neat V cutter for a clean draw and toast the foot evenly before lighting. If the cigar was shipped or stored at lower humidity allow it to rest in your humidor for 2 to 4 weeks to rehydrate gradually. For those who prefer to age, this cigar will gain complexity with 1 to 5 years of proper ageing, but it is also excellent after a short rest of a few weeks. Before smoking let the cigar come to room temperature for 30 to 60 minutes and keep the ash light to prevent overheating. Finally rotate cigars in the humidor occasionally and avoid exposure to strong flavours to keep the Behike tasting as intended.
Reviews and Ratings
The Cohiba Behike 52 has been met with strong praise from critics and players in the cigar community. Major publications such as Cigar Aficionado and Halfwheel have highlighted the Behike line for its balance, refinement, and exceptional construction, and tasting notes often include cedar, honeyed floral accents, cocoa and a gentle spice. Individual scores vary across reviewers, but the Behike series is frequently cited as a benchmark for premium Cuban cigars. In retailer tasting notes and forum discussions collectors also point to consistent draw, a creamy finish and excellent ageing potential, especially in the boxed tens format.
History and Heritage
The Behike name represents a modern pinnacle within the storied Cohiba family. Cohiba itself was developed as Cuba’s flagship brand and has long been associated with meticulous selection and high level fermentation. Introduced as a distinct line using rare Medio Tiempo leaves from Vuelta Abajo, the Behike blend was created to deliver a richer and more nuanced profile than standard releases. The BHK 52, as the more compact vitola in the series, is prized for delivering that signature Behike complexity in a shorter smoke, and boxes of ten are often sought after by enthusiasts who value consistency and cellarability.
Tasting Notes
The Cohiba Behike 52 (10) delivers a luxurious, medium-to-full-bodied experience from first light, rich and impeccably balanced. Aromas of warm cedar, toasted almond and a subtle floral honey lead into a complex core of dark cocoa, leather and delicate spice from the famed medio tiempo leaves. The smoke is creamy and layered, offering evolving notes of black pepper, espresso and a whisper of citrus zest on the retrohale, finishing long and satiny with a refined, tobacco sweetness. This is a cigar built for contemplative smoking: powerful yet nuanced, exhibiting the polish and depth expected of a Behike.
Pairing Suggestions
1) Aged Caribbean rum (12–18 year añejo), the rum’s molasses honey and oak influence echoes the cigar’s cedar and sweet tobacco, while its warmth lifts the Behike’s spice. 2) Single-shot espresso or ristretto, the concentrated coffee flavours accentuate the Cohiba Behike 52 (10)’s cocoa and espresso undertones, sharpening the finish and cutting through the creaminess. 3) 70%–85% dark chocolate or an aged tawny port, the chocolate’s bitter-sweet profile or the port’s dried-fruit and nutty notes mirror the cigar’s cocoa and almond tones, creating a decadent, layered finale.
